ELIGIBILITY
Interested applicants will need to be orphans, less privileged. Interested applicants who are non-primary audience (male or female) who wish to participate in the mentorship program will be required to pay a fee of ($60) 30.000frs per year
● Be between the ages of 10-21 on or before the application deadline.
● Be resident in Cameroon precisely in the town where the program is hosted.
● Be ready to work collectively in team settings with others from diverse backgrounds.
● Be able to attend the complete season from March to December.
● Be able to speak English or French
● Be willing and capable of conducting a practical at the end of each lesson or developing a sustainable project to qualify for project funding award or full scholarship award certificates are awarded only upon successful completion of the season An Alumni can still re-register for the program as many times as possible
EXPECTED HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM
The following are some of the expected highlights of the 2nd Season of SAMS
● The Mentorship program will host 100 youths of the particular town it is hosted in based on a first come first serve basis. The first in-person session of the mentorship is designed to host Interactive Sessions, Recreational Activities, briefing about the organization and program, distribution of kits, and recheck to ensure no registration errors.
● The mentorship will run programs on turning ideas into Social Enterprises. story telling, creative writing, stock market, civic leadership, basic computer skills, pastries, arts and crafts ( bead making, making traditional regalia), entrepreneurship and financial management, web development, career choice, hair do, photography, sports, graphic designing, dance, choir, communication skills, and the Responsible use of technology, internet and social media to foster Civic Leadership, Peace-Building, Community Development and the Fight against Climate Change. Etc Every month the mentors will test the children on the material they have taught (most especially the practicals) children with the best work will be awarded.

● Every year we will have at least 2 former mentees who are creating real impact in their communities to share their work and impact with the current mentees.
● During the month of December there shall be a commencement for the sports tournaments and a deliberation amongst the mentors to decide which town will host the SUMMIT EVENT. A two day event. Day one will be a sports finale and open door sales. Day two will be the event day hosted in a hall, certificate and awards
BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM TO MENTEES
● Mentees will be issued the mentorship kits, official T-shirt and participation badge. (Our general mentorship kit includes: Notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, T-shirts, and badges). Depending on the practical the mentee registered for they will have a training kit
● Mentees will be awarded participation certificates to use where necessary across the world.
● Mentees who come out first 3 in their test sessions, or with the most outstanding projects and children who show determination and commitment will be handed the full scholarships.
● Mentees will have opportunities to attend conferences and also be exposed directly to social change leaders and high level networks of professionals in Cameroon and across Africa
● We will also have books we will be signing out to the children for reading.
BENEFIT OF THE PROGRAM TO THE COMMUNITY
The engagement of these young leaders in this program would greatly help contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals and other global goals.
It will result in a community where everyone is literate and has a skill to offer to develop or impact the next generation. Hence, transforming lives and promoting growth within their communities.
There would be a significant increase in the creation of social enterprises and independence hence, more jobs being created, less unemployment and other social illness resulting from youths being idle or out of school.
Knowledge acquired from program will help improve living standards amongst the people
There would be an increase in skilled young leaders, equipped with the skills, resources and competences to contribute to a stable and vibrant community growth in line with the 2030 Agenda.
REGISTRATION PROCESS
All prospective applicants should fill out the online application form including the payment (you will be refunded 75% if you’re found not eligible, so please ask questions to be sure, before making payments) Also make sure to select the right town when registering.
The application must be completed in English or French. All applications must be submitted no later than March 1st.
Selection is on a first come first serve basis. We offer 100 openings per city each year.
PARTICIPATION FEE AND RELEVANT INFORMATION
The SMILES AFRICA MENTORSHIP SUMMIT is FULLY FUNDED covering expenses such as the cost of Training and other training associated expenses, mentor fee etc. Nevertheless, these apply to our primary audience only. There is a registration fee of $60(30.000xaf) which each non primary audience is required to pay.
It can be paid in two instalments. $40(20.000xaf) before attending the first in-person phase of the mentorship, while the balance of $20(10.000xaf) is paid in August. However, it is up to the mentee if they choose to pay the complete registration fee.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
The deadline for submission of applications for every edition of SAMS is March 1st.
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION
1. Community Activism
All Mentees will be required to come up with either group or individual projects from any of the programs of their choice.
2. Participation Certificate
Each mentee who successfully completes a season of the mentorship program shall be awarded a Certificate of completion.
3. Scenario where Certificates CANNOT be issued to mentee
When a mentee fails to complete the program.
When a mentee does not provide proof of community activism
If they engage in activities to sabotage the mentorship program.
4. Excessive Late Coming/Absenteeism
Any mentee who comes late to, or absence from program for more than four times during the training shall be expelled from the program with immediate effect. So please communicate with your coordinator in case of any changes or emergencies.
5. Smoking/alcohol
Smoking or drinking is not permitted on the mentorship premises.
6. Dress Code
On some days there will be specified dress attires please respect the rules. And always dress appropriately
