Fifteen young people explored ankara and beadwork, creating slippers and bracelets during a hands-on workshop at Grace of God Philanthropic Orphanage.

On 4 February 2023, Smiles Africa volunteers joined young people at Grace of God Philanthropic Orphanage in Boduma, Buea, for two hours of hands-on creativity.
Fifteen participants learned to decorate slippers and make bracelets using ankara fabric and beads. Together, they produced five pairs of slippers and five bracelets—pieces they had helped bring from an idea into something they could hold.
The workshop offered time to explore materials, practise a practical skill and create alongside others. Volunteers shared their knowledge, while the young people gave their attention to the work in front of them.
Remaining materials were left at the orphanage so the creative work could continue beyond the visit.
We are grateful to the orphanage community and everyone who supported this gathering. Sharing a skill is a personal act of care, offering another person the space and encouragement to discover what they can make.
