A heartfelt account of the people and communities at the heart of this work.
May 2026 brought Smiles Africa’s North-West volunteers together around a shared purpose: showing up for people with care, dignity and a willingness to serve.
Two orientation gatherings introduced volunteers to the organisation’s mission and gave team members time to connect with the work and with one another. People took on roles in outreach, training, communication and the practical work that helps community activities happen.
That spirit of service was also part of the Pad a Girl Child outreach at Government Technical Training College, Fundong, on 29 May. Alongside Inclusive Edge, Life In Organisation and Pa Anthony Nkwain’s Foundation, Smiles Africa supported a gathering centred on menstrual health education and practical care for students.
The partnership shared sanitary pads, opened conversations about personal wellbeing and established a campus pad-bank. This is the same Fundong gathering featured in our Pad a Girl Child story, and a meaningful part of the region’s month of service.
We are grateful to the volunteers who gave their time and to the partners who welcomed collaboration. Their shared commitment brought people together around the everyday ways a community can care for its members.
