The clean-up campaign project was in a global view a complex project as it initially required sufficient human resources and tools. Also itinvolved the risk which made project participants vulnerable to contamination due to the nature of waste they were exposed to.The project equally required to run long hours to meet project deliverable as stipulated in the project proposal.

This report summarizes the Team C Clean-up Campaign organized by the Smiles Africa Organization in Yaounde, Cameroon. Led by Project Manager Eric Njende, the initiative aimed to address poor sanitation at a popular junction in the town.

  • The project required official approval from the local council, involving the submission of organizational documents and a letter of appeal to the SDO of Yaounde 6.
  • Seven volunteers participated in the four-hour campaign on November 18, 2023.
  • Deliverables included clearing water canals of waste and mud (80% of activities) and cleaning street dirt (20% of activities), both of which were successfully completed.
  • Key milestones included the removal of decaying waste and the clearing of canals to improve water flow.
  • Police officers supervised the activity, as it was classified by the state as a public manifestation.
 
 

Risk, Management, and Resources

  • Project sponsors included the Smiles Africa Organization, with Petra Lemwi and Eric Njende managing the project and Mr. A. Richvan overseeing task completion.
  • Due to prior cleaning by the city council, the project focus shifted from sweeping to more complex gutter cleaning.
  • Risk management measures included providing volunteers with protective gloves, face masks, and disinfecting agents.
  • Date and Time: The campaign was carried out on November 18, 2023, running from 9:00 a.m. to 1:10 p.m..
  • Participation: The project was executed by 7 volunteers—5 from Smiles Africa and 2 from an external organization—supervised by project manager Eric Njende.

Overall, despite challenges, the project achieved its goals and demonstrated the organization’s dedication to environmental well-being.
