SMILES AFRICA 5th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Quality Education,Zero Hunger,Zero Poverty

For half a decade, we had tirelessly championed causes, uplifted lives, and woven a tapestry of compassion that stretched far beyond our humble beginnings, this is our story at SMILES AFRICA. In five years, together, we’ve transformed adversity into opportunity, and our commitment to making a difference burns brighter than ever.We are now, very much aware of the necessity of our role and work earnestly to defend our courses day after day. This is what makes us who we are in a whole and has led us to celebrate another victory.

In commemoration of our 5th anniversary, we delve into the one-week celebration that marked this milestone, from heartfelt testimonials to joyous festivities.
Going from sensitization gatherings to little donations and meals, our volunteers took the lead in marking this new era we got into. The following are accounts of this week-long commemoration
started on March first through March ninth 2024.

TEAM A on the Go! :
Prior to Smiles Africa anniversary on the eve, team A of the North-west began the festivities with a visit in an orphanage in the locality of Bamenda. They set out with a donation of rice and sweet
treats for the 25 children they met.Though the visit was brief, the team nonetheless went on to have play moments with the children at the orphanage. It is no doubt at that moment, joy filled
the place and no one nearby could dispute the orphanage was indifferent this moment as the children’s shouts and laughter resounded in the neighborhood.

TEAM B for the next :
Next was team B’s sensitization activity in Hope Bilingual Nursery & Primary School. The team from Yaounde did it their way, carrying out a sensitization activity on hygiene to the young pupils to promote good health, which is necessary to ensure the growth and development of the nation.

Their sensitization was cross sectional and without bias as it covered both internal and external hygiene practices for the young boys and young girls. What a great experience it could be interacting with young leaders. We look forward to having them practice the knowledge they got  and why not visit them some other time.

Match day, Game day :
Team A as part of its activities came up with a football match having the team volunteers play against the Lux Dancing Academy, a dancing group based in Bamenda. The game started
well for Smiles Africa as it took the lead in the match, but the joy of winning our own match was cut short as the guest team took over the match and won it at the final whistle. A good experience it was for both teams who had above all created new friend bonds.

The day’s activities could have ended at the match alone but the team had one last card to play, its refreshment meal, which gathered everyone at the table to share a moment together as a Big Team. In addition to this was the cutting of the anniversary cake made for the event.

Closing activity:
The long week of celebration came to an end with another orphanage visit, this time around by team C. To finish beautifully, the team went on with a donation in kind that definitely was very welcome. After a brief stay and a moment of fellowship with the children the team ended the anticipated week of celebration marking Smiles Africa 5th anniversary.

This was more than an anniversary, it’s proof of the resilience of the human spirit and the power of collective kindness. This resilience which led us to the celebration of a five-years legacy. We are grateful to all our volunteers who put in their every effort to make this possible, and to us, for being the support system carving this initiative. We keep praying for the grace to keep up with the good purpose for the future and good of humanity.
